The Galapagos Tortoises

The Galapagos tortoises (Geochelone Nigra) are the largest sea turtle in the world (400 pound), the oldest have 174 years. Galapagos has recognized more than 15 subspecies of this turtle, but only 11 can survive thanks to the humans. The population of this turtle is about 30,000, but this can change by the human actions. This turtle can survive 14 months without food and water.

 


APPEARANCE
The Galapagos tortoises can reach longer Metro and reach exceed the 250 kilos. This turtle have a big shell called CARAPACE that is their home, their have the fame of live a lot of years, that is true, they life pass in the water, also have a long neck.

HABITAT

The Galapagos turtle were distribute in all the continents except Antarctica and Australia, but now this turtle only exist in Galapagos Islands and the aldagara island. If you go to Galapagos you can find turtles in private parts in Isabella island and in the volcano Alceido.

THREATS

The Galapagos tortoise is an animal endangered , because the humans destroy they environment or kill them to have the shell, all of this actions can extinct this animal. We have to avoid that to conserve this important animal of Galapagos.

Conclusion: The Galapagos tortoises are an especial animal in Galapagos, we have to protect them because are unique in the world, the humans hunt them to be a deport or to use they shell, that is bad.  

We can do programs or campaigns to stop the hunt of this animal, they are part of Galapagos and part of Ecuador. 

The galapagos turtle is an especial specie of turtle, but thanks to the hunters they are endangered. Also, some peopl, like the naturalist help this animal for they can survive, they care them in special areas to give it food and avoid they poaching.
